What We Just Shipped

We have completed a full re-verification of every New South Wales trade licence in the TradieVerify database against the NSW Fair Trading public register. Every NSW profile page now reflects the licence status that Fair Trading is publishing today, not the status from when the record first entered our system.

This is part of an ongoing programme of work to keep TradieVerify the most current source of trade licence information in Australia. Our goal is straightforward: when a homeowner looks up a tradesperson here, the answer should match reality.

What Changed for Visitors

If you are searching TradieVerify for a NSW tradesperson, three things are now true that were not true a week ago:

  1. Status accuracy. Licences that have been renewed since their original entry now display as Active with their current expiry date, not as expired.
  2. Fresh “last synced” timestamps. Every NSW profile page shows when its data was last checked against Fair Trading. For the entire NSW catalogue, that timestamp is now this week.
  3. Cleaner directory listings. State, city and suburb directory pages reflect the new active counts, so you no longer see active tradies hidden behind a stale “expired” filter.

How the Verification Works

TradieVerify checks each licence number directly against NSW Fair Trading’s public verification API. We do not store cached judgements; we read what Fair Trading is publishing at the time of the check and write that back to the profile. If Fair Trading updates a licence — a renewal, a status change, a new expiry date — we surface that on the next verification cycle.

The April refresh processed every NSW licence record in the database. For records where Fair Trading reported updated information, we also recorded the change so directory listings, sitemaps, and search results pick up the new status on the next deploy.

The Numbers

The April 2026 NSW refresh covered the entire NSW catalogue and produced the following result set:

OutcomeRecords
Records re-verified against Fair Trading~110,000
Status data updated from the register~96,000
Status confirmed unchanged~12,000
Records no longer present in the public register~240

Where Fair Trading no longer publishes a record (for example, a licence that has been removed from the public register), we flag the profile so it does not appear in directory results until we have a fresh confirmation.

Ongoing Verification

We are continuing to improve the freshness of the data behind every TradieVerify profile. The same verification pipeline that powered the April refresh is now in place for routine re-checks, so changes Fair Trading publishes — new licences, renewals, status updates — will flow through to TradieVerify on a regular cadence rather than on an occasional bulk refresh.

Verification work in other states (Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, and beyond) follows the same pattern and is being rolled out across the catalogue.

What This Means for Hiring

Licence status matters when you are hiring a tradesperson. An “expired” licence in a search snippet might just mean the data is old, but it might also mean the tradesperson is genuinely no longer registered. The reason TradieVerify exists is to take that ambiguity off your shoulders by checking against the official register so you do not have to.

If you want to verify a NSW tradesperson before hiring them, you can search the TradieVerify register by name, suburb, or licence number. Every NSW result you see today reflects what Fair Trading is publishing now.

We will keep working on it.
