Data Sources & Methodology
Every licence record on TradieVerify comes from an official government register. Here is exactly where the data comes from, how we process it, and its limitations.

How our data pipeline works
- 1
Collect from official registers
Every record starts life in an official state or territory licensing register. We only use data the regulators themselves publish — open data portals, government API platforms, and official register extracts. We never scrape private websites or buy third-party lead lists.
- 2
Normalise into one national format
Each register uses its own licence classes, status labels, and file formats. Our pipeline maps them into a single consistent structure — so a "QBCC Builder — Low Rise" licence and a NSW "Building — Contractor" licence can be searched, compared, and understood side by side.
- 3
Stamp every licence with a sync date
Every licence we display carries its own "last synced" date, shown on the profile page, so you can see exactly how fresh the underlying record is. Significant dataset refreshes are also announced in our news section.
- 4
Link every profile back to the source
Every tradesperson profile links to the official register that issued the licence, so you can independently confirm the current status in the primary source. For NSW licences, profiles include a re-verify button that checks the live NSW register on demand.
Official source registers, state by state
| State | Licensing body | How we source it |
|---|---|---|
| Queensland | Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) | Licence register published through the Queensland Government Open Data portal (data.qld.gov.au). |
| Victoria | Victorian Building Authority (VBA) | Building Practitioner Register published through the Victorian Government open data portal (discover.data.vic.gov.au). |
| New South Wales | NSW Fair Trading | Trades register accessed via the NSW Government API platform (api.nsw.gov.au). NSW profiles also support on-demand re-verification directly against the live register. |
| Western Australia | Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) | Licence register extracts published by DEMIRS. |
| South Australia | Consumer and Business Services (CBS) | Public occupational licence register data released by CBS. |
| Tasmania | Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) | Register identified (CBOS). Data import in progress — Tasmanian licences are not yet searchable on TradieVerify. |
| Northern Territory | NT Building Advisory Services | Register identified. Data import in progress — NT licences are not yet searchable on TradieVerify. |
| ACT | Access Canberra | Public occupational licensing register data released by Access Canberra. |
Known limitations — read this before relying on our data
Our data is a snapshot, not a live feed. Registers change daily — licences are issued, renewed, suspended, and cancelled. A record on TradieVerify reflects the register as at the "last synced" date shown on that profile, and may be out of date.
Coverage differs by state. Each regulator publishes different fields. Some registers include issue and expiry dates and licence conditions; others publish only the licence number, class, and status. Where a field is missing on a profile, the source register did not publish it — we never fill gaps with guesses. Tasmania and the Northern Territory are not yet loaded; their registers are linked in the table above while our data import is in progress.
We are not a government agency. TradieVerify is an independent publisher and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any licensing body. Before signing a contract or paying a deposit, always confirm the licence directly with the official register linked on the profile. See our full disclaimer.
Corrections, updates, and takedown requests
If a licence record looks wrong, first check the official register via the link on the profile — the discrepancy may be a timing gap since our last sync. If the official register disagrees with what we show, email hello@tradieverify.com.au or use the contact form with the tradesperson's name and licence number, and we will investigate and correct it.
Tradespeople who want their profile suppressed — for example after deregistration or for a privacy concern — can request a takedown through the same channels. Suppressions are permanent and survive future data refreshes.
